Progress

Our aim is to address the issue of child hunger where 86% of the students at Esupetai were going home at lunchtime to look for food and not returning to school. We felt this scenario was detrimental to childhood development on many levels so we decided to feed the kids expecting that they would stay at school and be more resilient learners.

“In terms of enrollment, we have seen an increase in the total population as a result of super porridge program. There was low level of absenteeism, high retention and long contact hours.... The performance was on the rise every term, grade eight have shown remarkable improvement from 252, 264 and 277 in three terms respectively.....”

Impact

The positive impact of the program is more than expected:

  • The number of children staying in school for the full day is hugely increasing

  • Children from further away are coming to the schools

As a result of lower absenteeism and reduced hunger in the classroom, the grades are improving, placing the schools in great ranking.

Needs

As a consequence, the number of children to feed is also increasing. Our plans include continuing our commitment to feed 863+ children while expanding our efforts to help the three communities develop ‘climate resilient gardens’ (shambas) which will make the feeding program sustainable. Please keep our efforts in your heart and consider becoming even more engaged with these children and families. Remember, every dollar donated goes to the benefit of these kids: 100% !
